Highlights of the year

1. The Mathematics Society invites external experts to conduct seminars, exploring mathematical problem-solving from diverse perspectives while promoting the Mathematics Extended Part (M2) curriculum to cultivate students’ interest in mathematics and enhance their number sense and spatial visualization skills.

2. Inter-house Mathematics Competition: To enhance students’ interest in mathematics through school-wide activities.

3. Inter-school Mathematics Competition: To broaden students’ horizons, provide opportunities for success, and bolster their confidence in mathematics.

4. Encourage students to read books within the field of mathematics to broaden their knowledge base and perspectives, with the goal of fostering independent learning skills.

5. Participate in school-based STEAM learning activities, adopting an inquiry-based approach to enable students to explore mathematical concepts through hands-on practical activities.

Mission

• The ability to think critically, be creative, conceive ideas, inquire, and reason mathematically, as well as the ability to use mathematics to formulate and solve problems in daily life, mathematics, or other contexts;
• The ability to communicate with others through the language of mathematics, and the ability to express opinions clearly and logically;
• The ability to use numbers, symbols, and other mathematical objects;
• The ability to develop a sense of number, symbol, space, and measurement, as well as the ability to appreciate structures and patterns;
• Possessing a positive attitude towards learning mathematics and an appreciation for the aesthetics and culture within mathematics.

Objectives

• Enhance student motivation through the implementation of diverse pedagogical approaches.
• Facilitate collaborative lesson planning among teachers to co-develop effective instructional strategies.
• Systematically develop and reinforce students’ computational proficiency.
• Conduct regular mathematical activities to cultivate student interest and engagement in the subject.
• Collaborate with the Education Bureau’s School-based Support Services to facilitate the Primary 6 to Secondary 1 transition, with a specific focus on differentiated learning needs.
• Implement tiered support groups (enrichment and remedial) to address learning diversity and optimize student outcomes.
• Intensify preparation for the Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA) and provide specialized training for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE).
