Highlights of the year<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This subject allows students to participate in diverse events through organizing various activities, enabling them to learn through experiences and gain a deeper understanding of historical development. Additionally, this subject actively coordinates various exchange tours, such as trips to mainland China and overseas, to expose the students to their country and the world, fostering their development as global citizens.In terms of academic performance, 62.5% of our first cohort of world history students scored 4+ or above, which is higher than the overall level of students in Hong Kong. The percentage of 5+ also reached 12.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Essay Contest<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This subject has always strongly encouraged students to participate in essay writing contests. This allows students to gain a deeper understanding in Chinese history, thus enhancing their knowledge of their homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Leader Training<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong Palace Museum Student Ambassador<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This subject actively cultivates students to become leaders, frequently nominating students to participate as student cultural ambassadors at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. These students undergo training that last for nearly one year to become capable leaders who can introduce the Palace Museum. The history of the Palace Museum is a significant part of the country’s history, and through these activities, students can learn about the museum’s history, promote its culture within the community, and serve the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Competitions and Activities<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This subject leads students to participate in various competitions and activities, many of which result in excellent performances, boosting students’ confidence and sense of achievement. With the encouragement of teachers, students continue to learn and engage in historical activities, increasing their motivation to study history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Study Tour<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In order to enable students to have a deeper understanding of history and culture, our school\u2019s history department leads students to exchange ideas on different topics, allowing them to experience the world firsthand and reflect on different topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aims<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The aims of this curriculum are to enable students to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(a) discover where they stand in the contemporary world through understanding the origins<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and development of modern events;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(b) develop the skills of critical thinking, making sound judgments and effective<\/p>\n\n\n\n

communication through exploring historical issues;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(c) approach past and current events in an impartial and empathetic manner, using a variety<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of perspectives;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(d) understand the characteristics and values of their own culture, and appreciate the shared<\/p>\n\n\n\n

humanity and common problems of the world\u2019s many peoples;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(e) cultivate both national consciousness and the consciousness of being citizens of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

global community, and thus become rational and sensible members of the local<\/p>\n\n\n\n

community, the nation and the world; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(f) be prepared to explore in greater depth an issue of personal interest, or one that may be of relevance to their future careers and professional studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Objectives<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Students are expected to acquire knowledge and develop understanding of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(a) basic historical concepts, such as cause and effect, change and continuity, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

similarities and differences;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(b) diverse standpoints and perspectives inherent in different ways of representing and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

interpreting the past;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(c) the beliefs, experiences and behaviours of their own nation as well as of other nations,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and the ways in which they have shaped the development of the contemporary world;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(d) the inter-relations of major events and movements that have occurred in the local<\/p>\n\n\n\n

community, the nation, Asia and the world in the 20th century; and (e) the major historical developments and trends that have shaped the contemporary world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
